Help with Terminal Deck and its iPhone app. Most questions are about pairing a phone and about Hoot; both are below. If yours is not, tell us and we will answer.
Pairing your iPhone
- On your computer, open Terminal Deck and choose to pair a phone. It shows a short code and a link.
- On your iPhone, open the link, or open the Terminal Deck app and type the code. Codes last sixty seconds and work once; ask for a new one if it runs out.
- On your computer, approve the phone as your own device.
The phone and the computer talk end to end encrypted through our relay, so they do not need to be on the same network.
When Hoot does not answer
- Your computer is asleep or Terminal Deck is closed. Hoot runs on your computer, so it has to be awake with Terminal Deck open.
- No AI account is signed in there. Hoot uses the account you signed in to on your computer (Claude, Codex or Gemini). Sign in from Terminal Deck on the computer.
- The phone has no access yet. On your computer, open Terminal Deck → Machines, find your phone, and set its access to Full control.
